Crafting and adjusting Legendaries has been blown open by the ability to upgrade Rare items to Legendary-tier, convert Set items into other pieces of the same set, and reset a Legendary item’s affixes.

The update introduces a number of new features, most notably an item called Kanai's Cube which bears a few similarities to Horadric's Cube in Diablo 2. Kanai's Cube can be used to extract powers from Legendary items which players can then equip. Extracting consumes the item in the process, but permanently adds the power to a collection. Depending on the type of item they originated from, powers will be assigned to either the weapon, armour, or jewellery category. 

Players can have up to one power from each of these categories equipped at a time, and are free to swap between them from the Cube at any time. What's more, a frozen wasteland called The Ruins of Sescheron has opened up for exploration. Players can explore the region and learn more about what befell the barbarians of Mount Arreat filled with new enemies, traps, and environmental hazards.
