I bought the game, installed it, did all the updates. It crashed before I got into Tristram, crashed in Tristram, crashed after I left Tristram, etc. I updated everything I could find for my video card and now I'm able to play about a half an hour at a time before it crashes. I've tried the cathedral four times now but can't finish it because it always crashes and then I have to restart it.

Every time it crashes, I'm able to ctrl-alt-del to get back to the windows desktop; but I'm unable to shut the game down. I can start programs, stop them, etc, but I can't use anything above the task bar. I can start windows task manager but can't use it. The most I can do at this point is to tell windows to restart the computer.

I know someone's gonna ask me to post my dxdiag info - I dunno how to get that so I'll need some guidance.

You're right, we'll need to see your dxdiag info to start.
You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:
Press Windows Key + R.
Type DxDiag and press Enter.
In the DxDiag window, at the bottom, click Save All Information.
Name the file "dxdiag" and click Save. (note where it's been saved so you can find it)
Locate the Dxdiag.txt file just created and open it to copy and paste ALL of it's contents into your reply.
